Mouthing streams… a warm-up

Okay so the impossible things proved impossible – who knew?

However, tonight I saw the warm-up prompt on on NaPoWriMo, for an ekphrastic poem – written about a work of art. Found a picture on BBC site that I’d never seen before “mouthing streams”

I know nothing about the picture or artist, so felt it a good place to start the challenge. First thing I’ve written in ages, so please bear with me – hopefully things will improve as the month goes on!

Memories well:
a spit of sun-baked ground
slick as a lobster shell,
sand-drowned.
You,
half-glimpsed,
viewed through a brittle film
while all around is blue.
Stark and choking
blue,
it’s vivid hue
subduing umber.
The scene
pigments my dreams,
drags me, thrashing,
nightly from the depths
of desolation,
mouthing streams.
